Study.com Lesson Reflection
While I couldn't seem to manage to access the lesson on "The scientific Method Applied to Environmental Problems: Definition, Steps, and Applications" but I was able to do the other 3 assignments posted on Study.com. What I really liked about the lessons is that they started out with basic knowledge and vocabulary and then grew in complexity to Tier 2 and Tier 3 words. With those words they would provide great imagery as well as definitions. The videos also provided several examples in the videos. Lastly, I liked that they ended with a review of what they discussed in the video. I thought the quizzes were user friendly and the questions were straight forward even though I miss read one questions. These videos reminded me of the vocabulary instruction videos we watched in ED 5125 on explicit instruction by Dr. Archer.
When teaching out science lessons to the children at Bishop Dunn, I think it will be important to use some of these techniques for teaching Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary. I also think using a similar structure to the Study.com videos on introducing a topic will be important by starting with the basics and scaffolding into more detailed concepts.
