MY SCIENTIST

The first day of class we were asked to draw our image of a scientist. When I think of a scientist I think of anyone who makes observations, experiments, and works to enhance the world around them. To me a scientist is a farmer improving soil health through crop rotations and cover crops. A scientist is a baker making bread and keeping a mother yeast alive. And yes a scientist is also a biologist, chemist, and a physicist but the breadth of science for me goes beyond the classical image of a scientist in a lab coat, pocket protector, and a vile of some concoction.
More importantly a scientist goes beyond a white, crazed hair male. Anyone can be a scientist. I really enjoyed watching this following TedTalk because even in an effort to avoid science she pursues dance, which I would argue involves kinetics and professionals that have studied in kinesiology.

If there is one thing I could instill in my future students it would be that anyone can be a scientist or have a scientific mindset in a wide array of interests. Help them break the mindset of the scientists they see in the media. Like this:
