Fossils Fossils Everywhere - Reflection on Earth Science Lesson Part 1

Fossils. They're great. They tell us important information about the species that were on earth centuries before us. And I didn't recall too much about them prior to Monday nights class.

Google slide. They're great. They help groups collaborate easily when creating a presentation. And I now know how to do slide animations and which colors to avoid on a presentation.

I think getting us to collaborate on mini-lessons is a great way to do guided practice on creating lesson plans while having Dr. Smirnova in person to answer questions. I think focusing on earth science topics is a great way for us to refresh what we know about these topics.

However, this approach to reviewing lesson structures and collaborating in groups could have been more meaningful and felt more related to what we have been spending the rest of our time on if we were allowed to work on a lesson for our unit plan on Climate Change. Creating a lesson on fossils feels like its from left field, it feels very disjointed to the over arching theme of climate change in this class. It also feels like an assignment that easily could have been tailored to our unit plans, allowing us to get in person feedback on our progress.

I think part of the purpose for creating this lesson was to have us create a lesson on a topic we aren't familiar with. I think climate change plays that role for many of us (a topic we aren't familiar with), at least with how in depth with climate change our topics are.

I look forward to seeing what everyone creates and presents.
