Farewell Science Methods

In the beginning of this course I remember feeling overwhelmed and unsure of what was to come. Slowly the course unwound itself and I was able to make sense of our experiences. Although I was hesitant about keeping a blog, and doing it correctly, I think keeping a blog helped me organize my thoughts throughout the semester and think critically about readings and other resources. While I would like a redo on the fieldwork experience I do think it was helpful to have the experience of creating a direct instruction and an inquiry lesson. This course helped me solidify the difference between the two and I feel a little more comfortable developing each of these types of lessons. I found out about myself that I am drawn to inquiry based lessons, I think I would have appreciated more inquiry based lessons when I was in school, and I had a lot of fun coming up with the idea and resources for my inquiry lesson. Although if I had a redo I would make the PowToon video from the Chairwoman more upbeat and engaging (I recorded it 10pm and I share a wall with my 3 year old niece so I was trying to be quiet). But I remember thinking when Stephen's group went how engaging their PowToon was and I attribute it to the quality and excitement of the voice over. I also learned that I can further develop my time management skills. I think some of my stress from this class came from my hesitance to complete assignments due to the fear I wouldn't complete them correctly. I need to learn to be okay with the fact that I myself am a student and this is a learning experience. Things don't need to be perfect the first time around! That being said it was helpful when I received feedback so that I was able to modify my work. Lastly, I really found the introduction to new technology in this course very helpful. I think technology is all around us and it is necessary for our students to be exposed and comfortable with technology. I look forward to integrating many of the technology resources into future lessons and my future classes. Farewell Science Methods! See you in January Social Studies!
